If you are using gnome2, you might try uninstalling your gnome1
engines, though this probably shouldn't be needed.  You can change your
themes with gnome-theme-manager.  You also need the latest gnome-vfs2
for gnome-theme-manager not to hang when you have a lot of themes
installed.
