gnome hosed on sid

hi,

i think there is something wrong with the default configuration of gnome
in sid. i have made more than a dozen sid installations in past 3 months,
and this problem appears everytime.

it takes a very long time to logon into gnome, and logon process seems to
hang for quite a long time (10 seconds or more) when it is loading window
manager (as seen from splash screen)

i had a suspicion that it had something to do with
x-window-manager. previosly i was able to correct it by manually removing
x-window-manager from .gnome/gnome-session and then starting sawfish
manually but some time back this tricked stopped working.

now i am able to reduce it using the following hack

first, i would run session-properties and remove x-window-manager and then
save session. now, when i logout and login again, i should not get a
window manager, but still x-window-manager starts again.

but if i remove x-window-manager, save session and logout of gnome, and
then change .gnome/default-wm to /usr/bin/sawfish and .gnome/wm-properties
to Sawfish, and then i login again, i do not get x-window-manager. then i
start sawfish manually, save session, and relogin that delay disappears.

this delay is very annoying (and especially makes me look bad in front of
my friends to whom i claim gnome starts extremely fast when compared to
kde :) ). i hope this is corrected soon.

i would enter a bugreport, but first i will like to know whether this is
really a bug, or something wrong i am doing. and against which package
should i enter the bug report>
