does anybody know: is it easy to remove the 2 suffix at some
point in the future? I imagine this could be some problem.

As far as I understand it, we seem to agree that currently we should
have

    package   - GNOME 1.4 version
    package2  - GNOME 2 version (in experimental?)
                 Provides: package
                 Conflicts: package
                 Replaces: package

How would this look after we decided to get rid of the 2 suffix?
Would

    package - more stable, more tested, future GNOME 2 version
                 Provides: package2
                 Conflicts: package2
                 Replaces: package2

and asking ft-master to remove package2 be enough? Would this work
for both upgrade paths, for package(old) -> package2 -> package(new)
and for package(old) -> package(new)?
