But... my sources.list gets from http://http.us.debian.org:

  deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free

Shouldn't that be up to date enough?

How can there be versions of gnome-panel, etc. in the archive site that
require versions of libraries which _aren't_ there?
