Um, I think Debian Policy overrides snotty comments. :-)
If the upstream authors really object that strongly, perhaps they
should submit a policy proposal (we accept *proposals* from anyone, we
just need developers to second/approve them).
I think this is technically a bug (see the X Strike Force page at
http://www.debian.org/~branden for details on why it violates policy).
