Tackling some of the FTBFS bugs

  Just a heads up that I'm planning to spend some time working on the
large number of existing FTBFS bugs [1] in packages maintained by this
team. As I fix packages I'll be pushing the changes up to salsa and
requesting sponsor uploads.
