Bug#420949: New upgrade of libc6 2.5.* renders shells unusable

I have performed the entire apt-get -f install which placed the libc6 2.5.4
stuff as well as qt4 library updates and a few x modules.
I can start a bash shell using konsole or from a non-x console. After I do a
few things, I will try to logout and logon kdm. I will then try to restart x.
Might need to reboot first. If X restarts and I can login there, we can close
the bug.
If I cannot login, I have kept csh at the root login so I can change to that
and continue to use the new packages and we can work from there.
If X will not restart after a reboot, I can try recompiling the nvidia.ko. If
that works, OK. I think I had to do that after the first downgrade try so
this might be the case now.
At least openoffice will now run and I can compile stuff and have it not
segfault so I hope to be able tocontinue with 2.5.4
