It doesn't...

The problem appears to be including cdrom.h causes problems and the
thread below has a long discussion about it. It appears a corrected
patch for 2.4.21-rc1+ was submitted, but I don't know if Marcelo applied
it. Including cdrom.h is supposed to be allowed from the general
consensus on lkml, but you already know this since about the half the
posts on the thread were from you. ;)
