You should only update the package. At least I see no reason
to have a new package.

It could be uploaded onto experimental or possibly sid if 
you are certain that new updates
are not need for squeeze until release. Of course, squeeze 
leaf packages could anyway be updated via testing-proposed-updates, 
but migrating from sid is much more straight.
