This compiler crash looks like
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=108137 , already fixed in
the gcc-12 branch.  I can supply a workaround if necessary, but am
hopeful that an upcoming gcc-12 upload will include a proper fix.
