Thanks, I've forwarded this to the GCC folks.  An inital comment I
received was that it's not clear whether that's actually valid code.
"Initialization expressions have to have constant values, and the
length of an assumed-length string argument isn't constant."  But I
don't know anything about Fortran so please don't ask me.
