Bug#396745: regression on amd64 with optimazation enabled

i can compile vamos now, apparently the -gstabs+ option caused the
compilation not to work and it got removed from the Makefiles a few
weeks ago. compiling with -gstabs+ and -O2 still causes g++ to crash.
