Re: gcc 3.1.1 borked on voltaire

Chris and Matthias,
It appears that binutils is definitely not the culprit with
gcc-3.1-3.1.1ds3-1's failure on debian ppc sid. I see the same
failure with the build of gcc-3.1-3.1.1ds3-1 on my machine with
a locally built binutils 2.12.90.0.15 installed as we do on
voltaire. However, I still am able to build the gcc 3.1.1 release
package I rolled from the release tarball and the debian patches/rules
from gcc-3.1-3.1.1ds2-0pre3. So there doesn't appear to be a
problem with debian sid in general as far as building gcc 3.1.1 is
concerned. The resulting gcc 3.1.1 passes the testsuite as well as
it did last week when I last built my custom package. This all suggests
that some additional patches have been added to gcc-3.1-3.1.1ds3-1 since
gcc-3.1-3.1.1ds2-0pre3 and that is causing the breakage.
                          Jack
