I suspect this largely won't matter.  The rumors I've been hearing are that,
since there is minor ABI breakage between GCC 3.0 and 3.1 anyhow, and that
3.1 is about to be released, Debian will mostly just wait for 3.1 rather
than rebuilding everything twice.  A 3.0 package will still be available,
of course, but the default compiler will go to 3.1 rather than 3.0.

That's just a rumor, I have no authority in this matter.  (But I think
it's a good idea.)

I mention this because GCC 3.1 is building KDE 3.0 cleanly, it appears:
