DEB_CROSS_INDEPENDENT gone...

It used to be you could set DEB_CROSS_INDEPENDENT=yes and the
resulting (cross) compiler wouldn't depend on gcc-xxx-base.

DEB_CROSS_INDEPENDENT has now been removed, but the cross compilers I
try to build *do* depend on gcc-3.4-base.

So I see:
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of cpp-3.4-ia64-linux-gnu:
 cpp-3.4-ia64-linux-gnu depends on gcc-3.4-base (= 3.4.6-6); however:
  Version of gcc-3.4-base on system is 3.4.6-5.
