Best ARM cross compiler to install for 2.4

I recently upgraded to 4.2 but the glibc 2.6 will not run on my 2.4.27
kernel application.

I was compiling with 4.1.3 and glibc 2.3.6, but since the upgrade I can
no longer
get back to 4.1 (any version) due to a dependency of gcc-4.1-arm-linux-gnu
on gcc-4.1-base 4.1.2-14. the testing release of gcc-4.1-base is 4.1.2-16.

Is there a way to get gcc-4.1 installed with 4.1.2-16 version of
gcc-4.1-base?

Or can 4.2 be installed to use glibc 2.3.6?
