Re: Status of toolchain repository

Hello Neil,

It looks very nice :-)
m68k is building. Note gcc-4.0 does not build. :-/

2006/11/27, Neil Williams <linux@codehelp.co.uk>:
http://www.emdebian.org/debian/

Most supported target architectures have now been successfully merged
and updated into testing and main, for host architectures i386 and am64.

m68k on amd64 has not been updated - build problems (zumbi? any news?)

The important package, in all the new trees, is:
gcc-4.1-$arch-linux-gnu-base

Note the -base suffix. This is the package created using the
DEB_CROSS_INDEPENDENT=yes environment setting that allows your
cross-compiling toolchain to be updated separately from your host
toolchain. Whilst emdebian will try to keep in sync, it is important
that host toolchains are not held back by cron-apt or apt-get upgrade
because of a dependency within the cross toolchain. This is what
gcc-foo-base achieves.

There are links to the various package summary lists at [1], broken
down into testing and unstable, i386 and amd64.

Note that the old cross-foo listings will be erased soon and are
already disabled.

If any of the toolchains contain broken packages, please let me know
off-list - preferably including the entire error message from apt-get
so that I can identify the problem more easily. Problems are more
likely in the unstable tree than the testing tree - should you decide to
base your decisions on such factors - because of the current problems
building gcc-4.1-4.1.1-20 packages.

I'll update the summary lists each time a problem is fixed.
