I can confirm: during upgrade, emacs went into some sort of infinite
loop during byte compilation and consumed 100% of a CPU. Checking with ps
showed that it was trying to byte-compile mmm-mode at the time. I was
able to reproduce reliably via different ways of kicking off
configuration, and removing mmm-mode made everything configure correctly.

(An infinite loop during byte-compilation does make it feel like there may
be some underlying but in Emacs as well, since that doesn't feel like
something that should be possible, but it may not be detectable or
avoidable depending on what the cause was.)
