How to change default fon in Emacs21
I've been using XEmacs for the past few year and decided to give GNU
Emacs 21 a try and see whether I'd like to move back using it instead
of XEmacs. First thing I noticed was that for some reason GNU Emacs
seems to be a _lot_ faster that XEmacs used to be, especially when
using Gnus. However, I ran into quite a few problems which I have been
unable to solve.
First of all: How do I change the dafult font in Emacs? I used to have
(custom-set-faces
'(default ((t (:family "Neep"))) t))
in my ~/.xemacs/custom.el, but in .emacs this does not seem to affect
anything. I also tried:
emacs.font: -Adobe-Courier-Medium-R-Normal--11-80-100-100-M-60-ISO8859-15
in my .Xdefaults, but nothing happened. I am able to change font with
Shift-Button1, but I'm unable to save the setting.
Secondly, I really do not undestand why Gnus wants to save all my sent
mails (in an nnml folder) base64-encoded. I tried messing with
mm-content-transfer-encoding-defaults, but it didn't seem to help. I
am using fi_FI@euro as my locale, if that makes any difference.
Third thing is, that for can't figure out what would be the right way
to use iso8859-15 without problems when replying to mails or articles
in iso-8859-1. For instance, if I reply to somebodys mail Gnus insists
on making two mime-parts, one with the quotation on iso8859-1 and my
text as iso-8859-15. There really isn't any reason for this normally.
Oh, and let's see whether my surname gets to be 8bit, quoted-printable
or utf8. I can only guess...
Suonpää...
