Re: Upgrading Squeeze to Debian-Education?

Hi

I am trying to setup an Debian-Education environment here at home, and
since I am not having enough hardware, I decided to run the Main Server
and Thin Client Server in an virtualized environment (xen).

I do run a virtualized tjener at work (using VirtualBox, as I am more familiar to its setup, with direct access to the raid array devices, and networking setup). It serves NFS to 30 workstations quite ok.

I could not figure out a way to install debian-education using the CD
though, so I installed a normal vanilla Squeeze environment, and then ...

?? it should be quite simple. With virtualBox, first run of the VM prompts you to which ISO you want to boot, and voilà. Xen probably is not much harder. Regarding software, I usually prefer to stay on the most travelled path, best way to avoid undiscovered painful bugs and headaches. Whence I'd advise you to simply restart install using Debian-edu iso. Though someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to say wether or not using a regular debian install could lead to issues later on.

I am using 192.168.1.22 as the main interface on this main server, and
having 10.0.2.2 as a virtual interface (eth0:1).

Having some issues for the moment,
* Can not launch gosa (is it locked to a specific network or interface?)
* Can not boot my thin clients via pxe.

network setup with virtualized environments can be tricky, are you familiar with it ? and with iptables NAT ?

my first reaction to your setup is the use of a virtual interface. They don't really act as full interfaces in some obscure corners. And dhcp is one such very special case. Can you try adding a dedicatetd NIC for the 10.0.2.2 to serve dhcp and PXE to the clients ?
