Changes to the DVD when debian-cd pull in all recommended packages...
I have patched debian-cd to get it to recursively include recommended
packages when asked to included recommended packages, to try to make
sure the DVD and the netinst installation will install the same set of
packages. As expected, this added quite a lot of new packages, and
pushing out some other packages we have on our list of wanted
packages.
388 packages was added, and 291 packages was removed from the DVD.
Unfortunately, the stuffing of the DVD ends before the gnome and lxde
desktop packages are added, and the recommended language specific
packages do not make it to the DVD either.
To see how far we get down our list of wanted pacages,
run"./check-what-is-missing squeeze-test-dvd | less" in
src/build/CD-administrator/.
Not quite sure how to best solve this. The proper solution is to ask
the maintainers of a lot of debian packages to reduce their recommends
to suggests where it make sense, but that is not an option for
Squeeze. Another is to drop the patch and instead list the
recommended packages we want to include directly in our package lists,
and accept that netinst and DVD installation result in different
packages. Any other ideas?
