The main reasons for that are: * Avoid "one sentence" bullet points. Journalists are lazy people, so you do them a favour (and improve your chances to get a) an article at all and b) correct content) by providing them with a text which they can reuse as much as possible. * Stripped quite some of the unproven pretences * condensed the text and avoid redunancy * Get a nice "opener" so that even people only reading the first paragraph have an idea what's that is about (and why the should continue reading) If you like, I can send you a more detailed explanation of the version I found in the wiki later.
