Steffen tried to fix this using kde kiosk mode, and I tested the current code.
I installed a standalone installation, and created two users, one a member
of the newly created students group, and the other not.  the user without the
students membership did get adept_notifier started when he logged in, and
the user with the membership did not.  I conclude that this work.
