[Bug 1159] New: needs documentation: desktop restrictions and how to change them

http://bugs.skolelinux.no/show_bug.cgi?id=1159

Summary: needs documentation: desktop restrictions and how to
                    change them
           Product: Skolelinux
           Version: etch-test-03
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P3
         Component: Documentation
        AssignedTo: debian-edu@lists.debian.org
        ReportedBy: holger@layer-acht.org

<white> klausade: the desktop access functions are restricted, that's correct
<white> a while ago i asked which restrictions we wanted to have and i put some
into place to let the testers see
<white> feel free to fill in a bug report to remove some of them
<white> i put them in place, because teachers complaint that the students could
do too many study-unrelated things
<finnarne> white: is there an easy way to change so that students could
actually start xterm ?
<white> finnarne: if you want to enable it, go
to /usr/share/debian-edu/students/share/config/kdeglobals and look at [KDE
Action Restrictions]
<white> it can also be removed from the package, i disabled most of it (more or
less also in the hope that the people come up with the ideal) :)
<klausade> white: can it be changed with kiosktool?
<white> klausade: it can be changed on the installed machine (edit the file i
pasted to finnarne) or in the debian-edu-config package on svn
<white> klausade: sorry that you ran into it, but at least it starts a
discussion of which ones are useful :)
<h01ger> white, it smells strange to edit a file in /usr to change a
configuration...
<white> it's kde
<h01ger> and can it be changed with kiosktools or does one have to use an
editor?
<white> it is easier to use the editor i reckon
<h01ger> for "a teacher"?
<white> try to start kiosktool and then load the profile and see if it
recognizes it
