I believe this has something to do with changes in changes in boot structures
between the 2.6.16 and 2.6.17 kernel in Debian Etch. I did an upgrade from
Sarge to Etch two week ago. I had a backport of the 2.6.16 kernel installed.
The upgraded 2.6.16 kernel did not boot. The filesystem was not found. I vent
into rescue mode and upgraded to the 2.6.17 kernel.

I did not log this because it seems that Debian Etch goes for a 2.6.17 kernel,
believing that this would be the case for Skolelinux too.
