Debian-Edu/Skolelinux 2.0 ready for free use!
After 21 months of development new Skolelinux version is ready for
download and free use. There are no license costs or worries. Many
municipalities uses Skolelinux in all the schools, operated centrally
to a low maintenance and operational cost.
Skolelinux is stronger than ever and the activity is high. Skolelinux
is the Debian-edu project's Custom Debian Distribution (CDD). It's
many installations in Norway, Germany and other countries. Hundreds of
schools running Skolelinux. Many commercial companies sells solutions,
maintenance, and support.
Popular programs as OpenOffice.org, Firefox, and GCompris is available
in many languages. A lot of Educational programs is installed as
default. The solution for thin clients is improved. It's possible to
install half thick clients with some preparations. Half thick clients
give full use of newer hardware with support for CD/DVD-ROM, USB-pen
and sound. The maintenance cost i still low with all the software
distributed from the Skolelinux server.
