This is why the root password is necessary. it is relatively easy to avoid this "human bug" entirely by disabling the shutdown menu for KDM. it would seem confusing to remember when it is ok to use (standalone machines), and not (thin clients). avoiding the opportunity to make an understandable mistake would probably be a good thing. it also seems really bad to type the root password over a very insecure XDMCP connection, so would be good to disable this for other security reasons... live well, vagrant
