Well, a lot of laptops have internal nics, both for wire and wireless.
There is no problem using the wireless  as the nic towards the
backbone, and the wire towards the thin clients. If there is only one
nic you could use a pcmcia or usb towards backbone, and the builtin
wire nic for the thin cliemts. If you need to use pcmcia towards the
thin client, please dont add to many thin clients, as they are normally
not very optimized for output. And dont use wireless or usb nics for
the thin clients, as these nics are not fast enough. Even for
test/Demonstration purposes.
