Important message: From pr47, every host should be part of a netgroup!

From Skolelinux pr47 and onwards the use of netgroups is default, to
avoid unwanted guests from accessing files they should not. These
means of increased security make it necessary to add the various
hosts into netgroups. If a host is not in the correct netgroup, it will
be denied access to the file server - which results in users not
being able to log in.

Ralf in Germany discovered this after having upgraded to pr47. He
reported that netgroups worked as expected night to 8th of April.
He first believed a bug kept him from accessing his files, truth was
that it was intended to be this way. See
http://bugs.skolelinux.no/show_bug.cgi?id=690

To avoid troubles with netgroups, we have written a user manual.

English version: http://developer.skolelinux.no/dokumentasjon/driftbok/netgroups.en.html Norwegian version: http://developer.skolelinux.no/dokumentasjon/driftbok/netgroups.html

When you have made the necessary changes, run

exportfs -r

on tjener as root.

It should be noted that this is only true for those having multiple
hosts accessing the file server. If you only have a combined server
and thin-client-server and no workstations, there is no need to use
netgroups.

We will follow the mailing lists and on our IRC channels extensively
to help those needing it.

We are available on IRC on #skolelinux on IRCNet (irc.pvv.ntnu.no,
irc.ifi.uio.no, irc.uib.no) and on #debian-edu on Freenode
(irc.freenode.net).
