new: WLUS 1.2-9 out
All faithfull testers of WLUS will be delighted to be able to
be able to test a new version of webmin-ldap-user-simple.
this one fixes a problem if one has not installed samba and
generates a short error/success message if a new user account is
created.
This will soon be the default user-admin tool on the cd. if you
have running skolelinux production server there is no need to
fear. if you dont consciously and willingly install wlus, nothing
will change for you, even if you update your installation.
and even after you installed it you first need to run the
ldap-backend upgrade script before anything is changed on your
system.
untill then you can of cause install the WLUS from the downloaded
iso image using apt or with dpkg like this (for the old version):
dpkg -i /cdrom/dists/woody/local/binary-i386/non-official/webmin-ldap-user-simple_1.2-8_all.deb
As usual, i uploaded the new version to the woody repository on
ftp.skolelinux.no.
To use it you have to put this into your sources.list file:
deb http://ftp.skolelinux.no/debian/ woody main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.skolelinux.no/debian-non-US/ woody/non-US main contrib non-free
then do as root:
apt-get update
apt-get install webmin-ldap-user-simple
if you had used the ldap database and populated it with data you
want to preserve you need to run
upgrade_ldap_backend
before you can actually use WLUS. This will create necessary
structures and reformat some entries to be usabel for it.
if you have ideas for better webpage-tidels or if something seems
inconsistent (even from a mere usability point of view) please
let me know. the goal is that this should be a easy going and
intuitive application.
