Heads-up: Intrusive translated string changes
Hi!
I've got queued for a long time a series of intrusive string changes
that I'd like to flush out. Those include changes to error messages,
--help output unification and refactoring, and at least man page
sources reformatting. Given that we are early in the release cycle,
this looks like an appropriate time.
For the --help output, I've had this blocked by thinking about
refactoring the code so that we can mark each specific option
description for translation individually, but then pondered whether
this might require adding context markers for most of them, and makes
aligning them more difficult. So what I've considered now is to at
least split them in smaller groups and also splitting the titles, so
that whenever a small change is done somewhere the entire strings do
not get fuzzied (which makes it hard to see what changed), and so that
ideally similar chunks can be grouped in the «.po».
So this heads-up is to avoid unnecessary translator work, given that
I might be touching the same string multiple times for different
atomic changes, and be flushing those changes in multiple pushes.
I'll try to start flushing out things already today, and will try to
end before next week ends. Will send another mail when the work has
finished and translations can continue.
Thanks,
Guillem
