Bug#203560: /etc/alternatives/README: some alternatives are a big mystery
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.10
Severity: minor
File: /etc/alternatives/README
Some alternatives, if there is no manpage, and are crypticly named,
are a big mystery to users as to what they are for. The most one can
to is to run strings(1) on the binary they point to. There ought to
be a better way to see what each officially registered alternatives'
intention is.
And some plain have no man page and some link to
/usr/share/man/man7/undocumented.7.gz, there is no consistency enforced.
