Bug#151625: dpkg: uninstallable - overlap - breaks "the whole system" of course
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.9.21
Severity: critical
Preparing to replace dpkg 1.9.21 (using .../archives/dpkg_1.10_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement dpkg ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/dpkg_1.10_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/dpkg-query', which is also in package dpkg-iasearch
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/dpkg_1.10_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Obviously with somthing like dpkg (of all things!) we expect the authors
to check the available namespace before creating conflicting binaries.
How long has the dpkg-iasearch package been in existence anyway, 2.5
years now?
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1332 Jan 16 2000 /usr/share/doc/dpkg-iasearch/README.Debian
Please rename your binaries to things that don't already exist on Debian
machines. This was such a simple thing to check, it is shocking to find
that no one bothered, for such a central package, before uploading it.
