When using a normal compile with dpkg, "./configure && make), these tools aren't needed. I think the issue of needing those when doing a Debian compile, using debian/rules, is there for a reason, partly to make sure that dpkg is using the latest of these tools when compiling the package. Is this satisfactory to your bug report? If so, please close it. If not, please supply some specifics on what is needed. Ben
