It's worth noting that this bug is also probably responsible (I didn't
have time to check the whole situation) for a bug I hit two weeks ago
which lost me the /bin/sh symlink.
This is really bad, because dpkg effectively doesn't work without
/bin/sh (since it is referenced by almost all {pre,post}{inst,rm}
scripts.)
Easy to fix, if you still have a working root shell running. Can be
awkward if not..
