Bug#31421: dpkg: display problems after dselect suspended

For example, I tried installing rvplayer, and got the message
"rv player not in /tmp, try again?" in text mode, not in dselect's
full screen mode.  I suspended with ^Z, grabbed the missing file,
fg'd, and noticed that from then on my keystrokes appeared to be
echoed more than necessary.  The echoing effect seemed to occur
both in text mode and in full screen mode where it greatly interfered
with the display.
