Do you still have access to that machine? Building a staticly linked dpkg
would allow us to Debianize xia01 and start building packages.

Can we get access to the CVS archives? This would give us better tracking
of a "critical" component.

This sounds worthy of an attemt. At least then I would be dealing with a
different set of dependencies. ;-)
