In order to do this, dpkg should squirrel away (possibly in a
compressed archive or the like) a copy of the original conffile on
package installation. At the moment, it only keeps an MD5 checksum of
each conffile.
I would find this very useful, personally, just for finding out just
what changes I've made to my system's conffiles.
