In any case moving all the contents of /usr so that it is in the same 
partition as / may involve disk space problems, since there -- temporarily 
-- has to be enougn space for both the old /usr partition and the new 
enlarged / partition.

I can see trouble in systems where storage is tight or it is difficult to 
expand /.
