AFAIK kernel-package is mostly deprecated these days in favour of the upstream 'make deb-pkg' target. Maybe this should be dropped or updated?

Perhaps it makes sense to also cc the maintainer of said package (the kernel team do not maintain nor use kernel-package for some time, which is *not* the same as the package being deprecated IMO).
