For PO-based translations, I propose doing the following: - revert their installing.po file back to pre-5652 version - name it installing-old.po - merge it with the HEAD version: msgcat --use-first installing.po installing-old.po >installing-new.po This way, installing-new.po will have the translations for strings that disappeared in the 5709 commit *plus* those for new/modified strings since then. Then resyncing this (make updatepo, IIRC) will make them appear and old stuff can then be dropped out (old strings will be in "obsolete" strings at the end of files).
