I unfortunately have no other ideas.
I do not understand why the root filesystem could not be mounted and why
changing the symlink solved this.

I'm hereby tagging this bug as unreproducible and we should wait until
this bug occur to somebody else.
I hope it was just a transient error and this does not need to be
mentioned in the release notes.
