This need to be explained in a little bit more detail. First I assume
the switch can only occur once (different order in Sarge and Etch) and not
during several restarts of Etch.

I noticed that /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules is used for
this. I never configured it so it seems udev installed it ...
One wireless LAN card in my system seems to get different MAC addresses
depending on the kernel but apart from this network interfaces to no
longer swap.
