Multiarch support, which you need to upgrade for 32bit to 64bit
without major pain, was droped from amd64 in favour of getting more
packages compiled quicker and to get included in sarge. Se how well
that worked out.

Once multiarch is added to sid/etch it will be an option, but not now.
