Index ready (almost) for proposed-layout of ftp.debian.org and document database

I'm proud to announce the availability of a proper automatic-generated
index for the proposed-layout I presented a while back which should
substitute the current layout at ftp.debian.org/debian/doc

If you recall the proposal is under auric.debian.org/~jfs/

The index is now available at
auric.debian.org/~jfs/proposed-layout/index.en.html

Issues fixed:
- the hierarchy used (section/language or language/section) is not
important since users can use the index.en.html to retrieve the documents
(are you ok with this Josip?)

- the document information is taken from a database of documents:
auric.debian.org/~jfs/documents-bd.pl This database is based on the one
used by the french translation team which some important changes.
(please read the sources)

- The index is automatically generated (through index.pl although it still
needs some work) using both the documents-bd.pl database and a database of
names and ISO abbreviations taken from the webml sources.

The index is not 100% clean, since there are some issues due to links to
locations (sometimes more than one link is made) but
I expect to have one 100% clean in the near future (this weekend
hopefully). The problems are due to not having a consistent naming
procedure for filenames in the DDP.

I'm also going to take the document database and use it to replace the
current layout under www.debian.org/doc. Notice that with the database is
pretty simple to make both user-manuals and admin-manuals information
provided in the DDP since it includes all the relevant information
(description, maintainer, CVS urls, published urls, versions...) I still
have to compare both (to check the database is OK and includes all the
information) and add a new "audience" tag (developer, user or admin) to
make the three sections.

I would appreciate if people took a look at the index.en.html and
commented on it. There are some issues regarding the layout size that
Raphael (debian-cd maintainer) commented about and we have to think how to
patch debian-cd so that it breaks the documentation in several CDs if
needed (I've taken a look but have not yet done it).

Denis Barbier also sent me a way to generate the txt files from the wml
sources I have still to check, but I'm postponing the automatic-generation
of the layout (which will be pretty simple to do, with current knowledge)
until the ftpmasters have approved it.

	Regards

	Javi

PS: There have been few comments from the ftpmasters on these issue, and
none of them constructive so I'm starting to think I should patch
debian-cd to use the DDP and WML CVS trees and build the CD documentation
localy instead of using the mirror's /doc subdir.
