Re: New Debian book copylefted

I want the DDP to know about my new book, The Linux Cookbook, which is
a user's guide to getting everyday work done with a Debian GNU/Linux

The hardcopy book is available through No Starch Press,

Nice work, I think I'll buy a paper copy for my lab.

I have a couple of little criticisms based on a first glance:

  1. Your intro states: "In Debian's early days, it was referred to as
the "hacker's distro," because it could be very difficult for a
newbie to install and manage. However, that has changed -- any
Linux newbie can install and use today's Debian painlessly."
Suggesting that a distro which requires the user to manually
partition the disk and specify which kernel modules to install, is
as easy to install as others with all flavors of pre-packaged
partition schemes and hardware auto-detection, is really not
helpful to the newbie whom you seem to target.
  2. In the networking section, you recommend the use of telnet to
connect to remote hosts, without mentioning that it sends
passwords in the clear, and I don't see ssh anywhere in that
     section (just kerberized telnet).

On the whole, thanks for a nice set of "recipies"!
