I noticed that this only happens in normalized SGML sources, so it has 
something to do with all the extra indentation in such sources.  I'm
already working on a solution to remove the extraneous whitespaces,
since not only Lout suffers from this: LaTeX can also be sensitive to
extra whitespaces.
