To me this clarification *does* make your decision to lower severity
more more sensible.

What made me escalate the issue was that you posted this:

What I understood as "needlessly trigger[ing] removals", when I read
your reply to the bugreport, was not the issue being non-serious (since
you didn't mention that reason in your post) but instead "the  current
ftp-masters mess".

Thank you for clarifying your reason for lowering severity. Personally
I disagree with it, but you are the maintainer so I respect it.

Also, thank you for initiating the packaging of the replacement crate,
daemonix, in bug#1125488.
