Hi Adrian, * Adrian Bunk <bunk@debian.org> [2025-10-07 01:19]:
I considered this briefly in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1098837#10 but it is a behavior change that needs a debhelper compat level bump, and that would mean a very lengthy transition phase.after seeing (and fixing) some of these bugs I have a question: Is there a good reason why debhelper cannot set -DCMAKE_POLICY_VERSION_MINIMUM=3.5 by default?
If the debhelper maintainers conclude that this can be done without bumping the compat level, it would be a feasible option. So far, we seem to have been "lucky" that packages just blindly declare some arbitrary minimum version, and there is nothing in the CMake files that actually breaks.
