I agree that this is a very convincing argument. A considerably
weaker supportive argument would also be that these symlinks are
here to stay for years, possibly even decades, which makes four or
five static symlinks much simpler to maintain long-term.

Still, I would prefer to know in advance if there are additional
technical concerns which need to be fixed or worked around.
